    About the Village — Thoha Khalsa

    Thoha Khalsa is an historic village in Tehsil Kahuta, District Rawalpindi. It has a rich past, a close-knit community, and a distinct Potohari identity. Moreover, the village reflects strong traditions, simple living, and deep social values.

    Identification and Historical Background

    The name Thoha Khalsa was assigned during the 18th century by the administration of the Sub-continent, following a request from the Sikh community of that time. Since then, the same name has continued in official and local use. Today, almost the entire population is Muslim. Furthermore, about 60% of families migrated here from Jammu and nearby regions in 1947. Therefore, the village preserves memories of migration, resilience, and community rebuilding.

    Location and Accessibility

    The village lies east of Rawalpindi city at a distance of about 45 kilometers. In addition, it is around 25 kilometers from Rawat on the Grand Trunk (GT) Road. The connecting road is properly constructed. As a result, Thoha Khalsa is conveniently linked to the highway network. Consequently, travel to and from the village is straightforward and reliable.

    Demography and Language

    The population is approximately 40,000. It includes several tribes such as Janjua Rajput, Ghakhar, Mirza, Bhati, and others. Moreover, people communicate mainly in the Pothohari language. Therefore, local culture, customs, and daily interactions strongly reflect the Potohar region.

    Occupation and Livelihood

    Most residents work as laborers. However, many individuals also serve in government and civil organizations across Pakistan. Additionally, about 9% of villagers are employed in foreign countries. Meanwhile, some families run small businesses. As a result, the local economy combines traditional work with modern employment opportunities.

    Thoha Khalsa is known for strong religious beliefs and social cohesion. Furthermore, community ties remain active through shared traditions and mutual support. Therefore, the village continues to grow while preserving its heritage.
