Construction work on additional classrooms at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Thoha Khalsa has been completed, and First Year classes are set to begin at the school as a result.
What Was Built
The school received new classroom facilities aimed at easing the shortage of teaching space that had limited the school's capacity. According to local reporting, the construction work was carried out under a grant of roughly 2.5 million rupees, provided through council development funds, and supervised on the ground by local council representatives.
With the additional rooms now complete, the school will be able to offer First Year (intermediate level) classes for the first time, extending the educational options available to girls in Thoha Khalsa without requiring them to travel to Kahuta or further afield for higher secondary education.
Addressing a Longstanding Gap
Access to higher secondary and intermediate-level education for girls has been a recurring concern in Thoha Khalsa, a point raised previously on this site in our coverage of local education and the absence of a degree college in the area. The addition of First Year classes at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School is a step toward narrowing that gap, even as the broader need for expanded higher education access in the area remains.
Community Response
Local residents and school administrators welcomed the completion of the new facilities, with several community figures acknowledging the role of council representatives and local elected members in securing the funding and seeing the construction through to completion.
Why It Matters
Every additional classroom and expanded grade level at a local school reduces the distance, cost, and disruption families face in keeping daughters in school past the earlier grades, factors that matter directly for how many girls in the area are able to continue their education. As covered elsewhere on this site, education infrastructure in Thoha Khalsa has historically lagged behind population growth, making incremental improvements like this one a meaningful, if partial, step forward.
